چکیده

The salient properties of a work-conserving, rate-based service scheduling scheme for ATM networks, called the Head-of-the-Line Earliest Due Date (HOL-EDD), are described. The major feature of HOL-EDD is that it does not use cell stamping. Instead, it uses an integer decision variable for each VC to schedule cells for transmission. It is shown that the HOL-EDD has a connectionist implementation of O(1) computational complexity. The exibility of the scheme is shown by generalizing it to schedule the CBR, ABR and UBR service classes.

Transporting Mpeg-ii Video Streams on Atm Networks with a Modified J-edd Scheme

Real-time video demands a stringent delay and jitter requirement. A switch in the network needs to implement an effective scheduling algorithm to meet such a requirement. The Jitter-EDD (Earliest-Due-Date) scheme designed for packet switching networks is noted for its capability to control the end-to-end delay jitter to be within the delay variation in the last switching node of the path. It, h...

M1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...

Generalized Priority Queue Manager Design for ATM Switches*

Our concern is the problem of efficiently supporting multiple QOS requirements in ATM networks. A queue manager in ATM network nodes schedules cells’ transmission based on their urgencies at the decision moment, while it controls buffer access based on the cells’ loss priorities. In this paper, we propose a generalized priority queue manager (GPQM) which supports multiple QOS requirements in cl...

Design of a Generalized Priority Queue Manager for ATM Switches

Meeting quality of service (QoS) requirements for various services in ATM networks has been very challenging to network designers. Various control techniques at either the call or cell level have been proposed. In this paper, we deal with cell transmission scheduling and discarding at the output buffers of an ATM switch. We propose a generalized priority queue manager (GPQM) that uses per-virtu...

Delivering Diverse Delay/dropping Qos Requirements in a Tdma Environment

In Wireless ATM networks transmission resources are shared among geographically disperse applications with diverse Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and traac characteristics. To provide QoS guarantees and use the bandwidth eeciently, call admission and scheduling functions are necessary. These functions should ensure the delivery of the target QoS to the supported applications while achiev...
